In this era of globalization, women's rights, empowerment and creation of work-friendly environment are essential to build a progressive society. The Department of Women's Affairs is working to establish women's rights and development in the mainstream of the state and society. 2088.72 million tonnes of food assistance has been provided to 5802 poor women through VWB program in last 3 years. About 3825 women have been given allowances under Mother and Child Support Fund programme. 3,45,000/- micro-loans have been disbursed to 24 women as Arwatak. 460 women have been given various trainings for self-employment. Legal assistance is given to the women seeking help. By selecting and awarding 11 women in 5 categories in Gomstapur Upazila from among those women who have overcome adversity and established themselves in various fields of society under the program "Joyita Anveshen Bangladesh" the women have been inspired to move forward. Support is provided to develop energetic and interested women as entrepreneurs. 19 sewing machines have been distributed to poor women to make them self-reliant. Awareness meetings, seminars have been organized for the people of different professions to prevent child marriage from the upazila. About 90% of child marriages have been stopped. Various programs have been adopted as per National Action Plan-2013 for the implementation of National Women Development Policy-2011.
